Life is full of unexpected events. One minute you may be showering happily in the bathroom, the next minute you may be lying dead in a bathtub full of blood, horribly murdered.
That piece of "little" info really expanded my eyes because they went so wide, the globes just can't wait to pop out. If it happens to me... I'll... I'll... Ah, well it won't happen to me anyways.
You just hate all that ambiguity, don't you?! HAH! Too bad.
That aside, I recently come across a certain headline that was published in Newpaper last Friday, 26th Sept. I can't recall what exactly the headline said but along the line it was something like "4 Rejects from NUS, but obtained a masters from Oxford and PhD from Princeton."
This Singaporean guy who did very well for PSLE and Os didn't do as good in his A levels. He had to take his As twice. Though his grades were borderline passes, he still went ahead and applied for NUS in the arts faculty. 4 times he applied, 4 times he was rejected.
So here comes the crucial point. He decided to apply for an Aus uni- UNSW (Chinese and Theatre Studies) instead and he got in! He then became one of the top students in the entire cohort, thus giving him a place at
Oxford for a Masters (Chinese Studies). After which he continued his education in
Princeton, currently taking his PhD (East Asian Studies)!
Hello!! He's such an inspiration! His route of education is something which I'm sorta aiming for, minus the NUS part of course. 4 rejects from NUS yet now he's getting a PhD in Princeton. This guy even acknowledges that going into arts may have an indistinctive future ahead for him, but he still went ahead because of his interests! He likes what he's doing and that's probably a crucial part that got him so far.
Man! He's truly an inspiration... I'm so awed. I'm so motivated. I'm just really... inspired.
Hah! Then I did a really clever thing. I took the article home from work [yes, the newspaper was from work if not I wouldn't have bought it in a million years] [okay maybe not that long] and showed it to mummy~ If talking doesn't help, FACTS as evidence may help in convincing her to let me pursue 'that' something I want.
It ain't easy because she was still skeptical about the whole "going to Aus to study" plan even after reading the article. Though I could see that she's a little taken into the idea... After reading, I asked her about it and she vaguely said, "You want to go, go lor... Go lor..."
Oh and you know what happened an hour later? She went, "Why don't you join the big companies in future? Big companies, more income."
I turned away from the laptop and replied, "Huh?"
"Optical shops la..."
-_-"""""
Is she trying to convince me to stay in Opt0m?!
So I started saying all the bad things about joining big companies- politics, worrying about sales everyday due to commission and sales targets to hit...etc etc.
And then she said, "Go join government shops lor!"
*double diao diao*
Is there even such thing as government shops?? I didn't want to continue the conversation, so I stopped and began thinking of ways to convince her.
BUT! Amidst all these, *gasp* I think she is kinda allowing me to go for a vacation in Korea after graduation with LY!!
She asked me what do I plan on doing after graduating.
Immediately I replied, "Go to Korea for vacation!!"
"With who?"
"With my friend lor."
Then she surprised me by saying, "Yeah... You old enough to go overseas yourself already.."
But... she continued, "You know how to handle meh?"
I replied casually, "Follow tour group la...Easy peasy. But then I want free and easy leh...*sigh*"
Then she LOL. "You know how to go meh?! You know how to speak Korean?"
"I'm learning what!!"
"You learn.. cannot talk to anybody now.. You sure you know anot?"
"I watch other people talk.." [Obviously referring to DBSK but she didn't get it]
"Watch so many movies and dramas only.. Must learn to talk one.."
"I zi yan zi yu lor..."
"....."
OMG... 60% allowing me to go Korea with LY, man! This is awesome!
Haha.. this 60% thingy reminds me of the time I did the same thing when I went to DBSK concert in KL. I counted the % from mum allowing me to go KL until the time I got the tickets to the concert. What a surreal feeling... the concert and all. *siiiiiiigh* Bestest night of my life.
SO... if history is repeating itself. OMG, Seo-uuul~~~ Here I come!! Haha. Let's not get too excited first.
Sekali my mum PMS. -_-"
